College Place High School Names Adriana Zelaya as Head Coach of Girls’ Basketball Program

College Place High School is proud to announce Adriana Zelaya as the new head coach of the Hawks girls’ basketball program, ushering in an exciting new era defined by passion, energy, and a commitment to excellence.

Zelaya brings a dynamic blend of high-level playing experience, leadership, and deep community roots to College Place. A former standout collegiate athlete at Monmouth University, she competed at the NCAA Division I level, where she developed a reputation for her intensity, work ethic, and competitive spirit. Her experience on the court has shaped a coaching philosophy centered on discipline, resilience, and team-first culture.

Beyond her playing career, Zelaya has remained deeply connected to the game through coaching, mentorship, and skill development, impacting athletes both on and off the court. Her ability to connect with student-athletes, combined with her understanding of the modern game, positions her to build a program that is both competitive and character-driven.

In addition to her contributions to basketball, Zelaya is a respected professional in the Walla Walla Valley, where she serves the community in her role as a dentist. Her commitment to service, leadership, and personal growth reflects the values of College Place High School and the Hawks athletic program, making her an exceptional fit for the “CP Way”—a culture grounded in relationships, accountability, and striving for excellence in all areas.

“I am incredibly excited and honored to lead the Hawks girls’ basketball program,” said Zelaya. “This is a special community, and I look forward to building something that our student-athletes, families, and fans can be proud of. We’re going to bring energy, accountability, and a relentless mindset every single day.”

Zelaya’s vision for the program emphasizes player development, strong team culture, and a fast-paced, high-energy style of play that will energize the court and the community. With her leadership, the Hawks are poised to take meaningful steps forward and create a competitive identity that reflects pride and unity.

“Adriana brings an infectious enthusiasm and a clear vision for what this program can become,” said Athletic Director, Kenneth James. “Her experience as a Division I athlete, combined with her passion for developing young people, makes her an outstanding fit for our school and community—and a natural embodiment of the CP Way. We are thrilled to welcome her to the Hawks family.”

As the Hawks turn the page to this exciting new chapter, the future of girls’ basketball at College Place High School shines bright under Zelaya’s leadership. Soon, the Hawks will host a meet and greet event for players and families to meet Adriana and find out more about what’s ahead this summer for the program.
