Class of 2021: Graduation Information & More

I apologize for the mistype, but please note that on the paper Graduation Tickets themselves, the start time for Graduation says 7:30pm. That is incorrect. Our graduation commencement ceremony starts at 7:00pm on Saturday, June 12th here at the College Place High School stadium.

Also, here is a map of parking lot spaces that are available for you, our guests, for graduation. Please do not park in fire lanes or along College Avenue. A shuttle service (one of our district suburbans) will be available for families that end up parking at the Wal-Mart overflow parking lot as identified in the map.

We also will have Spanish translation headsets available at the ticketing gate for families that would like to request that option.

Additionally, just a reminder that we will have the entire event livestreamed on our district Facebook page.

Thank you, and we look forward to celebrating our graduates this Saturday, June 12th at 7:00pm.

Commencement Day Photography
Two professional portraits of each graduate with their diploma will be taken. Photographs taken at Commencement will be available for viewing/ordering within 36-48 hours after Commencement. A complete selection of portraits and candid photographs will be available online; go to

Update: 6/7/21

Good morning Class of 2021 Hawks families,

We are so excited to celebrate and recognize our Class of 2021 graduates! What a wonderful group of young people ready to make their mark on the world!

Our Saturday, June 12th at 7:00pm at the CPHS Stadium, our 2021 Graduation is quickly approaching and I wanted to send one final communication to you all with details and information about the commencement ceremony.

 Guidelines:

Per state and county health guidelines, all attendees to the commencement ceremony will have to wear masks, and maintain social distancing. In practice, this will look like all attendees wearing masks regardless of vaccination status, and for our families to be seated within the 12x12 foot sections provided via your tickets.

 Tickets:

Each graduate has been given their commencement tickets for distribution. As indicated on the ticket, every graduate has been given six tickets for one of the 12x12 feet grassy sections that will be painted and marked on the football field. Inside the ticket envelope includes a map of the field with markings on which section corresponds with the provided tickets.

Please plan to bring those tickets with you and to arrive as a family.

Families have been able to request additional tickets and those have been provided to graduates as well. If you would like to inquire on additional tickets please contact Lori Bartlow at 509-522-3312.

We cannot allow for non-ticketed individuals to be on campus in attendance. Any individuals who attempt to come to the ceremony without a ticket will be asked to leave.

We will not be able to accommodate any requests for additional tickets on the graduation date itself.

 The Venue:

Weather forecast looks like low 90-degree weather. Our football field does not have any natural shade and we are not allowing tents or umbrellas that might interfere with the visibility for our guests from the field. Please plan accordingly. Sunglasses are encouraged and you may bring water bottles.

Please bring either lawn chairs or picnic blankets to sit on, within your provided ticketed 12x12 foot sections.

We will have elderly/handicap seating available on the sides of the track. If you would like to have a few of those chairs reserved, please call the main office at 509-522-3312.

Restrooms are open at the Stadium and we will have two portable restrooms on the back corners of the track as well.

 Commencement Day Photography

Update: 5/7/21

Good afternoon CPHS families of the Class of 2021,

I wanted to get an update out to you all on our CPHS planned Graduation Ceremony for Saturday, June 12 at 7:00pm at the College Place High School Stadium.

Our graduation ceremony must comply with federal, state, and local requirements. Attendees will be required to follow health and safety requirements, including masking and social distancing.

Commencement Ceremony Information:

Ticketing Information -

• Each of our graduates will be issued 6 tickets for the event.

• Graduates and families who do not need all six of their allotted tickets, are encouraged to contact the school so that we can move unused tickets to a pool for those who would like to request additional tickets. Graduates cannot simply trade out tickets to other graduates. Tickets are designated for certain reserved spaces that families will be placed together inside. Out of courtesy to others, please do contact the office if you do not need all six of your graduates’ allotment of tickets.

• Graduates and families should also contact the school if they would like to request additional tickets.

• Tickets for the graduation ceremony will be distributed to our graduates on June 2nd, along with their cap & gowns, and senior photos.

• The tickets will be similar to the tickets we used for athletics contests, and include on them a map of the Graduation Ceremony layout with markings for the designated viewing space for those allotted tickets.

• Any persons who attempt to attend the ceremony or be on our campus without a ticket will be required to leave.

Potential Weather Concerns –

• Our ceremony will be an outdoor stadium celebration. We will not move the ceremony indoors due to poor weather conditions. However, if inclement weather is forecasted we will postpone the ceremony and communicate any changes to graduates and families as soon as can. If we must postpone we will attempt to move the ceremony to the next good weather forecasted day.

• We are aware that family members may be arriving from out of town and will attempt to keep to our original date and time unless of extreme weather.

Outdoor Ceremony Logistics –

• Two entry gates will be accessible for family and guests at the stadium.

• Tickets will include attestation acknowledgements similar to our current athletic contests.

• Signage will be displayed requiring guests to wear their masks at all times.

• Families must sit together. The six tickets each graduate is allotted is for a pre-arranged 12’ x 12’ section of grass on the football field. All people must have a ticket. Those that request additional tickets will be assigned to another section of space. Maps of the designated spaces are included in the ticket information. Each 12’ x 12’ section will be spaced six feet apart from each other.

• Guests should plan to bring foldable lawn chairs or picnic blankets to sit on. There will be some seating available for handicap or elderly guests.

• The designated 12’ x 12’ sections will be randomly drawn and assigned to graduates tickets. Which means the location your tickets are assigned is random, and not based on student last name, or any other factors. The ASB student president will work with Mr. Aguilar on the random drawings of these graduation ticket lots.

• Please do not bring noisemakers, balloons, or other distractible items. Flowers or gifts for the graduates should be exchanged at the conclusion of the ceremony in the parking lot areas or preferable at homes.

• A professional photographer will capture photos for our seniors during this event. Families must remain in their assigned 12’ x 12’ sections and cannot leave those areas to get closer to the stage for photos.

• The ceremony will be live streamed on our CPPS Facebook Page.

We are very excited to celebrate and recognize our senior class! We look forward to our Graduation ceremony and believe it will be a memorable, fun, and classy celebration.

Seniors should plan for our Graduation rehearsal to be on Friday, June 11th. We will all gather in the cafeteria at 8:00am for our Senior Breakfast and Awards recognition program, before moving out into the stadium for graduation rehearsal. This is a mandatory requirement, so parents/guardians, please help us make sure your senior attends the rehearsal on June 11th.

We anticipate that our Senior Banners will be displayed on light poles around campus the week of May 21st.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us at 509-522-3312.

Thank you, and Go Hawks!

Robert Aguilar, Principal

Update: 4/6/21

Good morning Class of 2021 Hawks families,

I wanted to make sure to pass along to you all some updates with regard to our CPHS Graduation ceremony on Saturday, June 12 2021.

We will have an outdoor stadium graduation. The event will run from 7:00pm to 8:30pm on Saturday, June 12 2021.

This will be an exciting first for our school as we have historically held the graduation ceremony in the main gymnasium. With current COVID guidelines, we believe we can host a safe, memorable, and celebratory event outdoors. The view of the Blue Mountains during a summer time sunset, will hopefully provide a beautiful backdrop for our amazing Seniors. We will plan and anticipate for kind weather.

With our current COVID Phase 3 guidelines, we believe we can invite for each senior graduate roughly between one to six family members to watch. We are still finalizing the logistics but we envision that each graduate will be able to provide between 1-6 tickets for families to be provided designated viewing spots from the Football Field and Track areas. This means that families should plan to bring foldable lawn chairs or picnic blankets to use for their seating. The stadium bleachers will be held for the student graduates seating.

As we get closer to this event, and as details become finalized, I will communicate with the seniors and their families on ticketing information and provide a visual map/layout of the event.

We will also have a live stream of the graduation ceremony for those who cannot attend the ceremony in-person.

I also wanted to share that we are working on celebrating the Class of 2021 through individualized student graduate banners that will be displayed throughout the campus. We do not have a current timeline for when these banners will be up, but our goal is to have these installed for the weeks leading up to our stadium graduation.

Seniors should plan that their last day of academic classes will be Thursday, June 10th, and that we will have our Senior Breakfast and some version of the Senior Walk the morning of Friday, June 11th. Immediately following will be a Graduation Ceremony rehearsal as well.

We are also working with Walla Walla University on a potential Baccalaureate ceremony. I will share those details with you as well as they become available.

Thank you, and if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me at raguilar@cpps.org.

Update: 3/11/21

If you could not join us for our Class of 2021 Parent Night Virtual Event, here is a video recording of the meeting.

I plan to send another update in early April, anticipating some guidance from OSPI to high school principals on graduation ceremonies in late March.

We have a Graduation Planning Team who is brainstorming scenarios, but I believe our best bet is to plan for an outdoor ceremony in our stadium, where we can maximize attendance by maintaining distance in an outdoor environment. I will send out confirmation of our plan as it becomes available.

Update: 3/1/21

There will be a Class of 2021 Parents/Guardians Evening Zoom Meeting on Wednesday, March 10 at 7:00pm. Principal Aguilar will share information for seniors and their parents on Graduation plans and status, call for senior party parent committee, and answer any questions you may have.

Due to the COVID health and safety guidelines, we are unable to provide graduation ceremony details at this time. We can tell you that we will hold our Class of 2021 Graduation Ceremony on Saturday, June 12th 2021. The exact time and location of the ceremony will depend on information the school is given on COVID guidelines in the next few months. As these pieces of information are shared with the school, we will send the Class of 2021 and their families this information as well.

Stay tuned for more information as Graduation details become available!
