From Coach Ryan Lackey:

First off, I wanted to say thank you for getting the opportunity to develop the Track and Field program 7-12. It was an absolute honor working with all the CPPS kids for the past 5 years. To start a brand new program was a major undertaking, recruiting kids to try a sport they really had little knowledge about. We started our program with 8-10 athletes in high school and 25-30 in middle school.  When we combine all 4 (boys and girls) programs, we have averaged 90-100+ athletes over the past couple years.

Memories from the past 5 years are many, many wonderful ones. I will try to hone in on just a few that really stick out as I am writing. To start, one of my favorite memories is the family atmosphere that was created by the coaching staff and the athletes. You would always see the kids huddled together cheering on their peers during competition.  It was amazing to see a thrower cheering on a fellow teammate running the 3200 to keep them going. Next, being present when CPHS had their first state champion in track and field, many of you know who he is, Kenneth Rooks, and to follow him as he had an amazing first year at BYU.  Lastly (but I could keep going and going and going), watching the development of athletes that started in our program in the 7th grade all the way through their senior years. The one who truly sticks out for me is Edi Preciado, he joined the program as a 7th grader and I had to beg him to participate and luckily for us he did. Edi worked hard through his middle school years and blossomed into his high school turning the heads of many coaches, including myself.

I leave CPHS/SMS Track and Field as a coach, but I will always be their biggest fan and will continue to follow the student-athletes and continue to encourage them to push themselves, academically and athletically, even when they think they have already pushed themselves to their limit.

Finally, Thank you to the families and the kids that have been part of our program the past 5 years, I will cherish all the memories that were created.
