A Sensory Walk Promotes Focus and Concentration

As you may have noticed over break, kids have the need to MOVE! That’s why at school we have breaks like recess, and why many of our teachers now plan ‘brain breaks’ and movement activities within their lessons to help kids get the wiggles out! There is a lot of research in support of movement and its importance in brain development and learning, and at Davis, we would like to offer more for our kids in meeting this need. That is why we are working to establish a ‘Sensory Walk’ down the K/1 Hallway in the coming months. But, in order to do this, we will need your help!

\r\n

A ‘Sensory Walk’ is a path made of high-quality vinyl stickers that allows for and encourages a variety of movements and activities specifically designed to promote brain and whole-body development. It consists of floor and wall decals, and is accessible to all students; yet, it specifically provides needed activities and movements that will help many of our learners who struggle to focus for long periods of time in the classroom. You can learn more by ‘googling’ Sensory Walks or visiting: www.fitandfunplayscapes.com/se...

You can also view a great report of an elementary in Spokane that is already doing exactly what we are hoping to do as well: https://www.krem.com/article/entertainment/places/inland-northbest/spokane-elementary-school-sensory-path/293-72be8ca1-2993-408d-8a21-c5c4be97bc5e

We are asking everyone in our Davis Family to consider giving $1.00, $5.00, $10.00 or whatever you are comfortable with to help us fund this exciting project! The decision to essentially crowd source the funding of this project is intentional, as we want to give our school community a chance to really own specific programs within the school; in this case a research-based tool that will benefit the development of all our children!

\r\n

The choice to donate also gives you the opportunity to vote for which Sensory Walk we will purchase. Our team has narrowed it down to two options, both of which cost $1,500.00, and we want our donors to have voice in which one they would prefer to see!

\r\n

If you choose to contribute to this project, you will be given a ballot to cast your vote! We will be accepting donations toward the project at the main office and online at https://wa-collegeplace-lite.intouchreceipting.com/, and we will have a display in the lobby where you will be able to learn more about our plan and total fundraising goal to bring a Sensory Walk to Davis!

\r\n

In the event that we raise more than our goal, we will apply the extra dollars to add-ons to the walk, or even the establishment of a second walk!

\r\n

Our goal is to fully fund the project by February 28, 2020!

Thank you for your consideration!
