College Place High School Athletics would like to take a moment to thank a couple of our CPHS Boys and Girls Head Soccer Coaches who have been here since the beginning of Hawks Athletics. Trista Rogers and Scott Keller have both resigned from their Head Coaching positions due to changes and new opportunities in their lives. The amount of time, energy, and care these coaches have put into our athletes and their programs cannot be measured. Both built their respective programs from tiny JV Teams with very few kids on the roster, into very competitive programs who are now playing at the Conference, District, and even State levels. All of their hard work and the relationships they built allow them to leave behind programs that are set up for success in the future!
\r\nBoth coaches brought something so much more important than wins, season stats, playoff victories, or individual achievements in what they meant everyday to their student athletes. Trista and Scott both believe that their roles as coaches was to develop young men and women into productive adults who work hard and give back to their communities. Their constant support and attention to the academic achievement of their athletes supplemented and superseded any accomplishments on the field.
\r\nCoach Keller would show up nearly every afternoon before school was out, awaiting the bell to end the day. He would enter the hallways looking for his players and checking in on their grades, forcing them into the academic lab, taking them to meet with their teachers, and sitting with them to work on the homework and projects. This was not done just to help keep kids eligible; he believes that academics provide opportunities for the young men he worked with, and he never wavered from that stance. His players loved him and played hard for him, because they knew they were always getting his best effort in return.
\r\nCoach Rogers has been teaching and coaching at CPHS from the very beginning. She is an excellent teacher and coach who possesses a special ability to relate to young men and women, and always finds ways to harness their strengths and improve their weaknesses. She coached every athlete in her program diligently, from the most inexperienced player up to the best athlete on the team. She gave all of them her unwavering support, while teaching them how to be physically and mentally tough. Coach Rogers, just like Coach Keller, never favored sport over academics. She taught her girls how to advocate for themselves and push harder in the classroom to create greater opportunities in life, both during after high school.
\r\nI cannot express my own personal gratitude for what these two coaches have done. College Place High School has huge shoes to fill in regards to these outstanding coaches and mentors, and what they leave behind. You two are one of a kind and your players, school, and community thank you for your sacrifices!
Trista and Scott, you will both be missed. Thank you again for all you have done for the Hawks!
