CPHS Spring Sports Update

Dear Hawks Athletic Followers and Fans,

\r\n

It is with deep disappointment that I share with you today what some of you have already heard, the 2020 spring sports season has been officially cancelled. Following the cancellation of the rest of the 2019-20 school year, the WIAA clarified that there will be no in-person extracurricular athletics and activities through the end of the school year. This will include all regular season contests and practices as well as all postseason tournaments and championship events (full letter from WIAA below).

\r\n

I understand this is a very harsh reality right now, and it is difficult to deal with for many of our athletes. In the front of our minds are our spring season senior athletes. The last chance for many of them to play the sports they love, connect with their teammates and coaches, and compete for both team and individual achievements has been taken away. We want to continue to honor our seniors in many ways as this spring pushes on and we continue to adjust to a new lifestyle without school and sports. I would encourage you to reach out to our senior athletes and let them know what they mean to you, many of them are hurting right now.

\r\n

There are many ways we will continue to connect and recognize our seniors during this season that never was.  We don't have all the answers or plans yet, but we will continue to work hard through this uncertain time. I would encourage you to use the many ways listed below to stay connected during this time of uncertainty and be on the lookout for more updates regarding plans for recognition and other related activities.

The WIAA has received clarification that the order issued by Governor Inslee on Monday includes the cancellation of all in-person extracurricular athletics and activities through the end of the school year. This will include all regular season contests and practices as well as all postseason tournaments and championship events.\r\nThe decision was undoubtedly a difficult one for Governor Inslee. However, it was done so to keep the students and families of Washington safe. The WIAA Executive Board and the WIAA Staff feel for those students around the state that have had their seasons or careers cut short. This terrible disease has not only prevented students from creating lifelong memories through competition, it has limited the valuable lessons gained through participation in education-based athletics and activities.\r\nThe WIAA will continue to work with member schools around the state of Washington to navigate this unprecedented time. We have already seen some outstanding examples of athletic directors and coaches making the best of their situations and we know that work will continue.\r\n
