These are difficult and unusual times in CPPS and across the globe.  Despite the unusual situation, we are working to make sure that student learning continues during our closure.  Beginning Monday, March 23rd we will begin “At-Home Learning” for all students. The goal of these activities is to continue to allow students to develop the skills necessary to keep them ready for their return to school on April 27th.  Also, in credit-bearing classes, the work that students do will allow teachers to assess progress in the skills needed for earning credits in those courses.

How Do Children Get The Schoolwork During the Closure?

\r\n

Davis Elementary: Students will be able to access their assignments in the following way:

\r\n

Grades Kindergarten and 1st-- ”At-Home Learning” packets will be available for pickup each Monday, March 23 & 30, April 13 & 20 from 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. The expectation is that each week, students will return their completed “At-Home Learning” packets when they pick up their next week’s assignment.

\r\n

Grades 2nd-5th-- “At-Home Learning” will be delivered through Google Classrooms.  Students will need technology (see below) and have had instructions from their classroom teachers on how to access online.

\r\n

Sager and CPHS (All classes/All grades):  Student “At-Home Learning” will be delivered using Google Classroom online.  A week’s worth of assignments will be uploaded each Monday (except during Spring Break).  Students will turn in assignments as determined by each teacher.

\r\n

How Are Assignments Graded? How are grades posted?

\r\n

All assignments during the closure are graded as either a Pass or Fail.  Students are expected to complete and turn in assignments as determined by the teacher and will be assessed weekly by the teacher.

\r\n

Teachers will post grades in Skyward as they do regularly.  Parents can access the grades through the parent portal.

\r\n

How Do I Communicate with My Teacher and the School?

\r\n

Teachers will be checking email, online Google Classrooms, classroom apps (i.e. Class Dojo, Remind, etc.) daily during the workweek.  Parents/guardians/students should expect to hear back from their teacher within 24 hours of a request during the workweek. Parents/guardians/students can either email teachers, utilize Google, or any other communication tool set up by the teacher (i.e. Class Dojo, Remind, etc.)  Teachers will not be available April 6-10 for Spring Break.

\r\n

Parents/guardians/students may contact the school office from 8:00-3:00 from March 16-April 3.

\r\n

The district will be open for the duration of the closure from 8:00-3:00 at (509) 525-4827.

\r\n

*Please remember that due to health concerns, parents/guardians/students will only be allowed in the school’s main office Monday’s only to pickup/dropoff “At-Home Learning.”  If other meetings are needed, parents/guardians will need to contact the school’s main office to set an appointment.

\r\n

\r\n

Yes, the district will be distributing breakfast and lunch grab and go meals to school-age children.  Each day a quality breakfast and lunch will be provided at one time. For the safety and health of everyone, meals will be delivered to your car and there is no need to get out.

\r\n

Will the District Be Providing Child Care During the Closure?

\r\n

CPPS is working to set up child care services for children of CPPS parents who are First Responders and Health Care Professionals and are unable to find childcare for their school-age children.  If you serve in one of these important roles in our community and are in need of services, please click here.

These are times like we have never seen before, but I know that we will go forward while dealing with the many obstacles and challenges.  Thank you for your partnership in this work as you are a valuable part of the College Place Public Schools family. We are doing the very best that we can and we appreciate your help.  Do not hesitate to call us or communicate with us through email any questions you may have.
