Everyone in the College Place School District is working hard to ensure that our schools are safe for our students and staff and that we fully prepared in light of this evolving situation with the COVID-19 (novel Coronavirus).

The World Health Organization announced today that the COVID-19 crisis is officially a pandemic. A simple definition of a pandemic is “many cases of an infectious disease in multiple parts of the world.” They also stated that it is not too late to act to take the necessary measures to keep people safe.

To assist in combating the spread of the virus, Washington Governor Jay Inslee announced today that he is banning gatherings and events of 250 or more people. The ban currently only applies to King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties and does not apply to Walla Walla County.

At this time, the school district has not postponed or canceled any school events or activities. The current guidance from the Washington Department of Health does recommend social distancing for people at a higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19 (Pregnant, over 60 years old, underlying medical condition, and/or immunocompromised).

The Washington Department of Health issued new guidance to schools about fevers and the amount of time students should stay at home:

\r\n

“If you have a fever, cough or shortness of breath and have not been around anyone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19, you should stay home, away from others, until 72 hours after the fever is gone and symptoms get better.”

\r\n

If your child has a fever, please plan on keeping them at home for 72 hours more after the fever ends. better.
