Trimester 1 Finals Week Schedule

Just a reminder that next week will be our 1st Trimester Finals Week. Schedule is attached. Here is an excerpt from our monthly news addressing the creation of a finals week.

"With now two classes of alumni having the distinct honor of being called College Place High School graduates, I wanted to let you know of some recent feedback we’ve received from our alumni, and a decision our staff has made in response.

Over the course of last year and early this school year, some students who graduated from CPHS and came back to visit us described how unprepared they felt for facing a College Finals week. Many of the students in speaking with Ms. Bryant, Ms. Silva-Ponds, or other teachers, made comments about wishing we had prepared them for what it is like to have several important due dates or exams within the same week.

After some discussion as a faculty, we decided to implement a “finals week” at the end of each trimester.

CPHS teachers will have the instructional freedom to decide if they choose to give a final, or not, and will communicate that with students well in advance. In addition to a traditional finals exam, teachers may choose instead to have a paper due, a presentation, or some other form of culminating assessment. Again, teachers may also choose to give no finals, and will use the time to do some other form of learning activity. Our first trimester finals week will be Nov. 12th-15th. The schedule for that week is below.

Preparing our students for post-high school success is a core mission of ours, and we look forward to supporting our students prepare for college readiness as we implement a finals week assessment structure. Questions about specific course finals re-assessment opportunities should be directed to the student’s teacher. Attendance is mandatory for the full period every day during finals week.
