Hawks

Lots of great successes to celebrate from this spring season for the Hawks! See season summaries from the Head Coaches below! GO HAWKS!

Hawks Tennis

Coach Ferraro:

The 2019 Hawk Tennis season was definitely a year of growth.  With 75% of our team being first-year players due to losing 12 seniors last year, we had our work cut out for us.  The tennis team rose to the challenge and played very competitively against the other teams in our league. The boys’ team played well and had several successes. We are looking forward to having a few more boys on our team next year so we can compete more effectively.  The girls’ team ended with a record of 6-4, giving them a winning season overall, a testament to the hard work these players put in. Next year, we will have much more experience going into the season, as well as some new faces. The future is looking bright for these Hawk athletes!  I can't wait to see where next year takes us!

Hawks Boys Soccer

Coach Keller:

Hawks fans, we ended our 5th season of soccer at College Place with a 6-9 record.  Though not our best performance, many games were 1 goal difference which could have easily gone the other way.  We are proud to say we had two complete teams this year, a milestone for our school district. Being able to have a JV and Varsity team allows for more students to get playing time as well as builds our soccer program.

This year will conclude a long tenure of several of the seniors who have played for me since they were in 8th grade, the very first year we had a team.  Some of them are going on to college, many of whom will play soccer, others are moving on towards technical careers and one has expressed interest in becoming school teacher.  It has been an absolute pleasure to coach these young men this year and I wish them all the best.

GO HAWKS!

Hawks Softball

Coach Davis:

This spring was a challenging, yet very special season for the College Place Hawks.  As was the case for all spring sports, we had to overcome the weather obstacle at the start of the season.  After spending most of the first month indoors, the team was itching to get on the field. The Hawks had a very successful regular season finishing with a 14-5 record and finishing with the number 2 seed in the districts.  At districts, the Hawks ended up qualifying for state with the number 4 seed from our conference.

Once getting to state, the Hawks played some of their best softball of the year and finished with a 3-2 record.  At the time of our elimination, there were only four teams left in the tournament. This was the first time the Hawks had ever made it past the first day of the state tournament.

Some highlights from the Hawks season this year include: most league wins ever with 10, most wins at the state tournament with 3, most athletes ever on the SCAC all conference team with six, and the first ever Hawks softball player to be named as the SCAC East's Player of the Year. This was a very successful season for Hawks softball and we would like to thank all of you for your support of the program.

Hawks Baseball

Coach Grove:

The 2019 Hawks baseball season was a success! We made the postseason as the number 3 seed in our league at districts and were able to come out of the district tournament as the number 3 seed at the regional/state tournament, where we eventually lost to Montesano. Our program had the highest number of players ever turn out to begin the season and we were able to have a junior varsity team for the first time. This enabled more players to get more playing time and grow as baseball players. We will miss the seniors and what they have provided to our program. I am proud of all of the young men in the program and what they were able to accomplish this season. We appreciate all of the support throughout this season, which has helped lead to our successes.

Hawks Track and Field

Coach Lackey:

With all the weather that hit us early in the season, this season started out as one of the toughest beginnings of my 15 years of coaching track. The kids stuck it out, endured this season, and finished out the year stronger then we have in previous school years.

On the boys side, they finished the season in 3rd place overall while sending 15 of the 25 athletes to the District meet and then qualifying 10 of the 15 kids to the State Track meet.

The girls placed 3rd overall in SCAC east, which was a extremely challenging league. Sixteen of the 25 athletes qualified for the District meet and 10 ladies qualified to the State Track meet.

We took the twenty qualifying athletes to the State Track meet, which is largest number of attendees in school history. The future is looking bright for CPHS Track and Field!

Hawks Golf

Coach Fleenor:

Hawks Golf had a great start to the season, despite the weather, with 16 players turning out.  Our athletes were committed to the sport and demonstrated so in their faithful attendance at practices and superior performance at matches, defeating everyone in conference except Zillah (who finished 3rd at State) and Royal City.

Five golfers qualified for Districts and we had our first state tourney qualifier, senior Calin Hanson, who set a new school record of 88.

As we say goodbye to our two seniors, we are left with a younger team, which provides many opportunities for growth and improvement. We are already looking forward to District and State next season and, over the summer, and I expect that you’ll be able to find many of our golfers practicing on the course!
