School Board

INTRODUCTION

The School Board is composed of five residents of the district who are elected by the voters to represent them in setting policies and directing school programs. Full terms of office are for four years. Decisions of your elected School Board affect our children's education and future, and, in the long run, the well-being of our community, state and nation. The board of directors is an elected body of community members who are responsible for the direction of the College Place Public Schools. The board is the authority for local school regulations, policy, programs, and procedures while working in the framework of state law. They ensure goals are set to provide long-range planning, that the district’s budget is balanced, legal interests are protected, and that buildings and grounds are maintained. It is through this long-range planning that the board imbues the educational goals and values of the local community into school policy. The Superintendent reports directly to the board of directors and he/she is responsible to ensure that all policies are implemented within the district.

SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS

School Board meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Board meetings begin at 7:00PM at Davis Elementary in the Professional Development Room located at 31 SE Ash St. Special meetings and work sessions are scheduled on an as needed basis. Board meetings are open to the public and nearly all our discussion will be held in the open. The exception would be if it is necessary to discuss personnel, litigation, bargaining agreements, complaints against an officer or staff member, or real estate transactions where disclosure would be damaging. In those cases, the board will go into “executive” session.

SCHOOL BOARD POLICIES

College Place School Board regularly reviews policies for the governance of the District. The process consists of a first reading at one Board meeting with changes and adoption occurring at the following month's Board Meeting. The District offers an opportunity for public comments after the first reading has occurred. If you would like to review and comment on Board Policies, you may come to the District office to receive a hard copy. If you wish to make comments, those comments are due to the District office staff the Thursday prior to the following Board meeting. CLICK HERE to view Policies and Procedures.
