Description:
In this class we will be studying American history. Areas looked into will be economics, geography, government, and history. To achieve these ends we will look into map and globe skills, vocabulary, time lines, and analyzing events in historical context.
Learning Objectives
1. Study history to develop an appreciation and judgment of past events.
While doing so, students will better understand current events as well as develop an understanding of how the past affects their daily lives.
2. Develop and demonstrate the ability to interpret maps and globes, with emphasis on the five themes of geography.
3. Develop a foundation of understanding towards economics and civics (government).
4. Development of public speaking skills through oral presentations, small and large group activities.
5. Development of listening skills through dictation, listening games, group and paired readings.
Student Responsibilities
1. Seated and ready to begin when the bell rings.
2. Participate actively in small groups and in class discussions.
3. Bring materials to class.
4. Observe classroom behavior guidelines.
5. Complete all work on time.
Grading
1. Graded assignments will carry different weights according to complexity.
2. Number and letter grades follow the all-school policy.
3. Daily Work, Projects, Tests and Quizzes, and classroom Participation will all have the potential to affect your final grade.
