Class Syllabus for 7th Grade Social Studies
 

Description:

In this class we will be studying world history. We will start with ancient history and continue until the time of the Renaissance. Areas emphasized will be that of Egypt , Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, the middle ages, and the Renaissance. The text used in our studies is World Adventures in Time and Place, published by McGraw-Hill. Areas looked into will be economics, geography, government, and history. To achieve these ends we will look into map and globe skills, vocabulary, time lines, and analyzing events in historical context .

Learning Objectives

1.   Study history to develop an appreciation and judgment of past events.

While doing so, students will better understand current events as well as develop an understanding of how the past affects their daily lives.

2.   Develop and demonstrate the ability to interpret maps and globes, with emphasis on the five themes of geography.

3.   Develop a foundation of understanding towards economics and civics (government).

4.   Development of public speaking skills through oral presentations, small and large group activities.

5.   Development of listening skills through dictation, listening games, group and paired readings.
