Greetings and welcome to the world of special programs. What are “Special Programs”? Special programs are just about everything other than basic education. Financing for these programs come from both the state and the federal government. Some of the programs are available for all students, and some are only available to certain students based on the program’s qualifying criteria. Feel free to call me at any time to discuss the programs offered by College Place Public Schools. In addition to special programs, I am also a district resource for assessment, curriculum and instruction, technology, and professional development.

I have worked in the field of education for over 30 years. Born and raised in Walla Walla, I went through Walla Walla Public Schools and attended Whitman College earning a degree in English with minors in French and Education. After traveling and living in other parts of the United States, the Middle East, and Europe, I began a career as a teacher.  Starting out as an alternative high school teacher in Snohomish, WA, I quickly realized I wanted to do more for kids than improve their English skills. This desire led me to a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Washington. After several years in private practice as a therapist and educational consultant in Arizona and California, I took a position as the school counselor for John Sager Middle School. During my many years as the school counselor I engaged in various professional development opportunities that resulted in certifications as a school administrator and a school psychologist. For the past seven years, I have been the College Place Public Schools school psychologist. This year, I am pleased to be serving the district as the Director of Special Programs. It is hard for me to believe that I will celebrate my twentieth anniversary with College Place Public Schools in 2011!

The opportunity to serve the children and families of College Place is an honor. I am committed to helping staff: 1) identify what we want our students to learn, 2) identify what each student has learned, 3) respond to those that had difficulty learning, and 4) respond to those whose learning was successful. I am also committed to creating an environment where students and parents remember their experiences at College Place Public Schools with fondness and pride. I believe parents are the most critical component of a child’s education. As we focus on kids and their learning, together, we can help every child reach his or her potential.
