What is School Counseling?

School Counselors serve the academic, personal, and career needs of all students.

Counselors help students:

do better in school
build positive self-images
enjoy good relationships with others
develop good feelings about work, family, and society

Counselors work with:

students, individually and in small groups
teachers, administrators, and other specialists
parents and other family members

Goals of the School Counselor:

to identify children with special needs
to prevent problems from developing
to develop personalized programs
to provide crisis intervention
to provide career education activities
to help children understand themselves and others
to coordinate or facilitate services with other agencies

Who is the School Counselor?

Marissa Waddell

Marissa brings to College Place Public Schools a wealth of knowledge and educational experiences. She holds a BA in Psychology from the University of Washington, a Masters in Applied Psychology and School Counseling from Eastern Washington University, and is ESA endorsed. Mrs. Waddell has been with the district for 3 years and currently serves students in grades 4 - 8 at Meadowbrook Intermediate School and John Sager Middle School.

Blake Limburg

Blake Limburg has been in the district since 2001. He is serving grades K-3 students at Davis Elementary School. He earned a BA in Education from Washington State University and a M Ed, with an emphasis in Counseling Psychology, from WSU in July of 1998. Mr. Limburg was elementary school counselor in Pahrump Nevada from 1998-2001.
