LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL Dear Parent's, Students, and Staff, I am very excited about serving the College Place School District and community. I take an active role in every aspect of the school's operation; including curriculum, budgeting, staffing, plant operations, special programs, discipline, school improvement, scheduling, safety and much more. My teaching / administration credentials include a B.S. from Montana State University , where I graduated with honors; a Reading Minor from Eastern Oregon University ; and a Master's Degree in teaching from Eastern Washington University . I then went on to the University of Oregon where I earned an Initial Superintendent's License and later a Continuing Superintendent's License. One of the greatest honors of my career was earning a Teacher of the Year award in 1995. I believe we must do what is best for all students, and we should model this ideal every waking moment of every day. I value the opportunities and doors an education can open, and I have found that the more education a person obtains, the richer their lives may be. I have told many students an education is the one thing in their lives which can never be taken away from them. Why do I believe this? I could lose every penny I have today, but I will always have my education and therefore an opportunity to start over. As I begin my year with students and teachers, I tell them I value trust, respect, responsibility, consistency, and doing the right thing. All learning environments should be fun, safe and dynamic places, making school a setting where students thrive on learning, life, and challenges. In our schools, much like our society, there is a need for rules and procedures. Without these rules and procedures, our schools, teachers, and students may not have an opportunity to learn and teach in a safe and fun learning environment. As an Administrator, I encourage teachers to get away from the podium and get involved in the teaching-learning process right along with their students. I also encourage teachers to enhance their own education so they know the best teaching strategies and the latest information on state standards. Last but not least, I would like teachers to give each student something that can never be taken away from them; an education. I also encourage parents to be involved in the schools. Parents are more than welcome at either Meadow Brook Intermediate or John Sager Middle School . If you have questions or concerns, please let me know as soon as possible. Thank you, Mr. Varady – Principal JSMS and MB Intermediate
